What is NSBA's R.O.A.D. Committee?
Removing Obstacles and Developing
The R.O.A.D. Committee (Removing Obstacles and Developing) identifies and eliminates barriers—like lack of transportation—that stand between North Springfield students and their success.

What we do
The R.O.A.D. Committee is dedicated to identifying and removing barriers that prevent North Springfield students from reaching their full potential. Whether it's lack of transportation, limited access to resources, or other challenges that stand between our young people and their goals, R.O.A.D. works to clear the path forward. Through community partnerships, volunteer initiatives, and direct action, we're committed to ensuring every student has what they need to succeed - from getting to school safely to accessing opportunities that help them thrive.

One of our flagship programs is our community bike builds, where volunteers come together to assemble bikes for students who need reliable transportation. Each bike comes equipped with a lock and represents more than just a way to get from point A to point B - it's independence, responsibility, and opportunity on two wheels. By removing the obstacle of transportation, we're opening doors to after-school activities, part-time jobs, and educational opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. When we remove obstacles, we don't just help students get where they're going - we help them dream bigger about where they can go.

What do students and teachers say about the R.O.A.D Committee?
Helping More Springfield Students Graduate
We want to help more Springfield students graduate. Poor attendance is often one of the greatest hindrances for graduation. Every day a student is absent, it's a missed opportunity for learning. The R.O.A.D. committee works directly with SPS to get bikes to students who may not have other reliable transportation to help promote better attendance.
